I was watching an XJ 400 on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT but have never seen one like this before, The owner thinks it's a US model but I think it migh be Japanese.

It is a 4 cylinder water cooled roadster, 1984, triple discs, alloy wheels, 55 bhp (High for a 400).

The owner wants more than i can afford but I am curious about the bike?

It's got to be from Europe somewhere because of their 400 cc learners permit limit, where manufacturers try to squeeze as much power out of 400 cc's as possible to appeal to the young kids, which is why kawasaki made a 400 cc triple smoker screamer that can walk all over my 550

Could it possibly be an oil cooler rather than a radiator??

Oil cooler. If this isn't a US model, how much of a pain would the DOT be
if you attempted to import it?

I'm with the others - it's a Japanese or European model - definitely not a North American model - never sold over here.

    Sexy little beast though

It's liquid cooled; came in a "S" model (the pic link I posted) and an "E" model with a full factory mounted fairing like the XJ900 or 750s.
