How do I change my TCI to Points

I think I just blew my TCI. I was reading some of the archives and say a mention of changing the TCI to points. I was looking @ how much TCi's cost.....ouch. If it is economically wiser to go with points, can someone steer me in the right direction?

Lapped valves
New gaskets
New paint
New Tires

It's not. You would need points, a points plate, cam, advance unit, coils, condensers and all the associated wiring, plus you would need to figure out what bike to "borrow" those items from.

It is economically wiser to spend a couple days on ebay. I got my spare tested and known good TCI unit for $1.99. Yes, you can find them for over $200; but you can usually find them for in the $35-$50 range too. Just be sure it matches yours.

 

Please say you're kidding? You are better off looking for a replacement TCI.

Changing to points brings a whole pile of work and tuning to get it right... Might appear to be cheaper, but in the long run I suspect the most affordable option is a TCI.

 

if you can't find anything. you might give the boneyard a call. they are located in west valley city, utah. i got mine for $60. and he has lots of baskets

 

After you figure-out how to change a Bike from Electronic Ignition back to Contact Points and Distributor, ...

See if you can do something about these darned telephones, ...

I'm with Rick on the need for some SA comments. I worry an awful lot that my oil pump could go out and I wouldn't even know it. A manual cam oiler conversion would be the bees knees.
Hell, why stop the technological rewind with points? A twist of the LEFT grip should take care of spark advance.

 

I'll echo the gang, don't bother with points. You will never see near the hassle-free performance that you would with a TCI with a set of points.
Save up and score another TCI. Just be sure to check your wiring system over completely before you plug in another TCI and fry it just like the first.

I get it..... Stay with the TCI.

 

If your TCI is acting up ... we have a very capable Member who can overhaul the Board, refit it with new transistors, remove spells and curses and send it back to you better than new.

He has done many.

Sadly so I'm afraid. If only I had a means of reverse engineering the curve chip on these things (I don't know how and don't have equipment to burn new ones). Any "wizards" out there???

 

maybe something with Arduino or Pic that the crafty kids are so hot for these days.
Beats me, if I can't fix it with a wrench then I can't fix it. I only have the foggiest knowledge of all this magic smoke business.
