Hey, I am a nube to this forum. It is a wealth of information. I am wondering if a Maxim tank will fit my '82 seca. I do not have a Maxim around to try it. Thanks for any help.

It's gonna depend on which Maxim and what Seca?

Both 550's? Nope. Either ONE a 550? Nope?

Seca 650-- maybe, sorta, depending on what Maxim parts you're talking about. But not just bolt on and look right.

750? I think maybe, once again depending...

You can put a 750maxin gas tank on a 550Maxin successfully. You must move the rear rubber mount back about 1/2" to 3/4". I cut the mount (cross menmber) off the frame then moved it back on the frame and rewelded it. I also had to slightly modify the stock air box mount as its part of the cross member. with some careful fiting it will still work with the stock 550 tank. I did have the mounts cut off on the front of the tank (that was my first idea to make it fit I don't think it was necessary) and reweld them. Think they are very close to the stock position. Watch VERY closely the fit at the front handle bar yoke, as the bolts will hit if you do not move the tank back the correct amount (that' why you need to move the rear monut back). I left a 1/4" of clearance between the tank and the bolts. Be AWARE if the tank is not clean and has gas or fumes! DO NOT weld on the tank them. That is why move the rear mount is the best option.
