How is it with just the headers on there? I know it's going to, be loud, but what about performance? Are you getting popping and crackin in the exhaust or any bogging down issues?

Yeah im getting popping. And it is INSANE loud. I cant really tell you if the performance is bad, I drive a Big old 1500cc bagger, and this damn XJ feels like a ROCKET!!!!!!! So, I wouldnt know if its not perfect or not, but it feels absolutley Ridiculous. The open headers aren't permanent. I just havent decided how I want to do the Exhaust.

for performance I just meant....when you blip the throttle is it bogging or surging or do you have good throttle response?

I have the screamin eagle pipes on, but I don't like the angle, so that needs to be fixed. It was fine for the stock exhaust, but I think it looks goofy, is going to be too close to my kids' feet, and it's hitting my rear brake arm when I brake....not that I ever really use the rear brake, but still.....needs fixed.

Here is a new Picture Update. Suicide shifter is complete other than sandblasting and powder coating. My turn signals are not flashing but they do come on.

Did you get an electronic flasher yet? They don't flash beacuse those bulbs don't draw enough current to make the stock flasher flash.

Yes even though they are not LED. I ran into the same trouble putting similar lights on mine. I changed just the rear and had the same issue. I resolved mine by putting 1157 bulbs in the housing. I have the custom chrome bullet lights.

You either need an electronic flasher or bulbs of the same wattage as the stock to make the stock flasher flash.

Well I lucked out and got an amish storage shed approved to be on the land where I am renting an apartment, so I can keep the bike and continue forward with it.

after working on the bike all day working on my hanging RPM's, I pulled the carbs and took out EVERY jet and ran stuff through it made sure everything was clean. put it back on and the same problem persisted. NOW! We have noticed that the problem is coming from the CHOKE. even with the cable off. if you move it at all the RPM's go nuts. if you never choke the bike from startup and just get it ready it seems to be okay. What now??? where do i look??

The choke will raise rpm, cuz its not a choke, its a fuel enrichment circuit. Have you vaccuum synched the carbs? Also make sure the cables aren't binding from the choke and throttle, turn bars left and right and see if that messes with the rpm.

just take the choke off and use your finger to choke it if it has problems starting the choke isnt really needed all the time with the pod air filters

Sounds to me that it would be the synch. A bench sync only gets it close so it will run to dial them in on the bike. One thing with my bike I had the pilots too far in, lean, and wouldn't idle, so I had to turn the idle up so far that it messed with the rpms hanging. Before I learned what was going on it was quite a headscratcher. It was my first time doing my own carbs. But once you play with them for while you'll get it.

Are you leaving the exhaust like that or are there other plans? How do you like it with just the headers on there? Too loud? I thought about doing the same, but I don't think my neighbors would dig it too much.

i actually have them so that two pipes go into one and turn out under there on one side and then the same on the other. I just did it before that pic I will get better pics, but im going with longer pipes soon. it doesnt sound good, just loud.

Alright so before i posted a video of it with basically just the open headers. And Now here is a video of my new exhaust using 2.25" automotive exhaust piping. Still no mufflers but it definetly, gave it a deeper sound, and less like swarm of bees.

Forgot to add, that I paited the rear shaft drive, the pumpkins, and the swingarm finally. I cleaned my front brake system all out, got all the crap and old brake fluid out of it, it was pretty nasty. There doesnt seem to be great strength on the front brakes when you pull the lever, so I cleaned it all up. it works now the brakes are good, but it still doesnt seem to have very powerful front brakes. Maybe the mastercylinder isnt working to full power, so I ordered a rebuild kit for it, i know its clean, so imma rebuild it see if my front breaks get alot better, I hope so.

Just ordered a MC rebuild kit from Chacal, along with new Stainless breaklines for the front end putting stainless on to hopefully get more power to the front brakes, so it may save me from an accident one day.

Well its not for everyone. But I was going for the hardcore look and springs just dont make that happen. the bike rides like a board but its fun to ride, and people never ask to test ride it, they just go wow that must be rough to ride and I just nod. :) I enjoy it though.

did you wrap your pipes yet? Are you planning on painting them first? I read up on wrapping pipes and how the wrap can hold in moisture and cause the pipes to rust...blah, blah, blah... so, I painted mine with VHT header paint last night before I came in to work. When I get off in the morning I'm going to hit them up again to make sure I have them covered good and then tomorrow afternoon I am going to attempt to wrap them. Are you just wrapping the headers? I was contemplating doing the headers, over the collector, and over the very ends of the screamin eagle pipes to hide that part. I'm not sure yet though....

post up some pics as soon as you get the wrapping done.

Then you had plenty of time to wrap headers.....

sunday ticket is nice but watch out they'll automatically bill you for next years around June/July of '11. The 8 game mix channel in HD kicks butt!

Yeah, I have had HD for like 2 years and never hooked up an HD cable :D I need to get on that now. I don't CARE if they bill me for it next year. I will never not have it EVER again ... hahahahaha The wife said "why can't you have people over here to watch football or something, so we can get more friends?" I told her that no one is going to come over here unless I have Sunday ticket.... so I got it. I'm more excited then I think I have EVER been for X-MAS right now.

Oh, and the installers were supposed to be here at like noon, so I have been holding off doing the headers, because with my luck they would have showed up as soon as I got started. It's cool... the VHT header paint needed to dry anyway. I'll either wrap tonight or tomorrow morning. Then install and get that bad larry started back up for the first time in AWHILE!

got ready to put my new brake lines on today and the caliper to the ditribution block wouldnt reach. So I started to look to see why not, I believe I have found why my front brakes suck so much. I beleive my xj750 maxim, some PO of it put a xj550 front block on it which is designed for a 1 side caliper.

Everything is changed over now and all BRAND new parts execept calipers..

I have all new stainless brake lines from you, I also did a MC rebuild kit from Chacal, and everything is in and bled through to the point that it is a jet stream coming out of the bleeders on the calipers. There is no evidence of a leak anywhere, but yet I stil have a very faint breaking power to the front end. the only thing left to do is rebuild the XJ750 brake calipers. Is this the problem?? I did replace the front pads, and closed the pistons with a c clamp and everything seemed to function fine when I did that.

You should get some RED vht paint and paint them. Match your valve cover.
