I would like to learn from the wireheads amongst us whether it makes sense to replace all plug connectors with soldered joints insulated by heat-shrink tubing.

What type of flux and solder is recommended?

    1981 XJ650 Maxim Midnight Special
    1977 CB750A
    1970 Triumph Bonneville
    1967 Triumph Saint
    1964 Yamaha 250 Twin

Unless you're installing aftermarket components, there's really no benefit to replacing plugs with solder and shrink tubing. It just increases the difficulty of removing parts for maintenance/upgrades...

Why would you want to replace the plugs with soldering?

PS - If you need to get rid of all your unused plugs, let me know ;)

Can't really see a benefit, but if you clean your connectors real good, apply some dielectric grease and then heat shrink wrap them, that might be a good thing....

The benefit is singular, you eliminate the potential for connective issues at the connector. That's it.
The cons, you complicate the heck out of replacing things.

+1 The best solder to use is for electronics with flux induced in the solder.

Some Connectors ought to be clipped-of and their wires soldered.

The Connectors on a few Components might be convenient to leave as it.

But, the reason there ARE Connectors is simply to cut-down time wiring and installing the various parts during the Build.

If they soldered all the things Plugged-in, .... the Price of the Bike would skyrocket.
If you are talented enough to handle doing you own Soldering, ... joining the Bullet~Barrel Connectors would help eliminate electrical gremlins and probably make the lights a little bit brighter.

It might make troubleshooting a bit more difficult.
