I'm glad I stumbled upon this awesome forum. Just picked up a new hunk-o-junk XJ550 project. I may not actually have any real progress done to it for a couple months, but I thought I'd share it anyway.
I'm not sure if that rear wheel is stock to this XJ. Anyone have a clue?
My first big move with this will be modifying the rear suspension. I will either make it hardtail or fab myself a monoshock setup...haven't decided yet. Hopefully in a couple months I will have an update.

Now I've got it in my garage, started to tear down the wiring and I flipped the bars. Took a couple pics mainly so I could do some sketches on paper (and photoshop).

Hmmm not sure bout the wheels... but they do both seem to be a set. I like the fat front tire. Im wondering now if I can fit a fat tire on my front wheel.....

Those wheels are not from an XJ550. They look like they are off an FZ600. Bike looks mean. I like it.

Front and rear rim don't match- - front looks like the 600.
Looks like a good starting point for a project.

Welcome to the site !! (rear brake check \/ )

Love that fat front tire! not a bad starting point for a project. Hows she run?

Lookin' good so far except for the seat. I think a sprung solo seat would look better. Just my 2 cents.

    dude! so jealous!

it has an fz600 front end on it, max 550's had single disc, you have dual disc and better calipers, awesome forks, and a fat front tire

and that rear tire is... interesting, the brakes look sketchy

If you do decide to get rid of the seat i'd be happy to take it off your hands

    Thanks for all the replies.
I haven't really run it more than just firing it up to make sure that it works. That's it.
The rear brake is definitely more than sketchy, and so is the rest of the bike!
Oh well, definitely a serious project.
The seat is definitely going away (PM sent tsmith). I like your 2 cents, Orange-n-Black, you had the same thought that I have.

God help you if you think like me. I really like the look of a Seca gone bobber, it reminds me of the old school Triumph's.
