I've been searching for forward controls for a Maxim 550, plenty for the larger bikes but non for the 550, maybe because the set-up doesnt allow the extentions from the gear shift to fit as the frame is in the way, any help would be appreciated

Many of us made our own forward controls. It's not real hard to do if you are good with tools and can do a little welding.
If not, there are some forward controls for sale on Ebay for a fair price the you can adapt to your bike with the right length control rods.
My rods are made of 3/8" round stock (needs to be heavy duty so it won't bend under hard pressure) with the ends threaded on both ends for the brake side and 1/4" round stock for the gear shift control rod.
The main thing to remember is to thread the rods abut 1" on each end so they are adjustable to some degree. That was the hardest part of making my own forward controls was getting the rods the correct length.
I have deleted all the photos of my forward controls I made, so I can't post photos of them now. Maybe someone else will?

it does already exist... but they cost a fortune... ie over 500£ which is about or close to a grand in us dollars!!!!

this is the best and by far the cheapest option...
the two middle photos are of the actual product you buy.. the drawing of one was off a member here.. and the bottom is my bike obviously..

Yeah looking at a lot of the factory controls the pegs are not hinged, that is a must as I dont fancy losing it on a bend because it touched down, a lot of the hiway pegs are hinged so I reckon they will be my starting point and build from there, good luck
