One of the great guys on this site recently told me he used castrol 5W-25 in his ride, I would like some more info:

How much oil does it hold
What is the filter model for my bike?
Is there somewhere to get it inexpensive?
Can I clean the old one?

Now that I have drained all of the fuel/oil mix out, and will repair the petcock soon, I am ready to plan the oil and filter change

Also...I did search the site for this info, but maybe I overlooked it...

    Thanks

    Thanks Guys!

5W-25 would not be my choice. I'd run 20W-50.

The amount of oil needed is stamped on the case right near the Oil Filler Cap. Convert the Metric measure ... or, better-off -- Use it!

Add that much clean oil ... run bike and check window. You may need to add some more after doing a new filter with the oil change.

Someone will know the Filter info. I don't have a 550 Book. My bad.
For as important it is to have the oil filtered. Buy the right filter. They're less than 5-bucks.

    Clean the old one?
    No. They are disposable.
That's why they make new ones.

If you can find an STP Brand filter for that bike ... STP throws-in NEW O-rings ... for free. If you needed to get the O-rings from Yamaha ... the O-rings, alone, would be 12-15 bucks.

Here's a cut and paste from the XJCD that gives the oil capacity.
The fram part number for the oil filter is CH6003 and I think they supply an new O-ring also.
