Hello everyone from Nepal, the land of Himalayas!
I just got myself a 1987 Yamaha XJ650P and have been doing repairs (carbs, clutch plates, start probs etc.). I'm planning to do a 20 days Tibet tour on this bike. I'll have a pillion rider (80kgs) with me and also luggage packs (60Kgs approx). I myself am 90Kgs. So I want to know abt similar experiences of other XJbikers out there. Has anyone here been to Tibet on XJ650? Since we will we going to high altitudes of up to 5500metres and riding abt 300Kms per day on avg, how will such situation (thin air) effect the bike's performance? what sort of precautions, tunings and modifications need to be made to my XJ650? This is the first time I'm going to such altitudes on bike. Also since I jus got the bike, haven't had much experience on XJ650 and am totally oblivious to issues under such circumstances. Please let me know of your experience regarding this.
    Thanks!

Sure mate! I'm eagerly looking forward to this trip! :-D was wondering if anyone has done road trips to such altitudes on an XJ and about issues specific to it. Meanwhile, i've been busy for about a month now doin repairs and restorations on my XJ650. Without this website I would've been totally lost! Thanks to everyone here! :)

Hey Bikash, good luck on the trip. I'd say yours will be one of the more adventurous undertaken by anyone on the forums here, though there have been a few good ones.

Mechanically, this is the place to be. Any questions are answered quickly and expertly.

As far as doing some reading about long rugged motorcycle trips, check out ADVRider.com, and check out the rider reports link. Some great logs of some very ambitious trips.

Thanks Lou627 for compliments and link! Tonnes of great info there abt adventure touring! I'm not much of a DIY mechanical guy but after some bitter experiences with motorcycle workshops here, i've been trying to restore my bike myself with the help of information here and a friend of mine who is also a professional four wheeler mechanic. :)
