First time doing float levels on the bike. What a PITA!!! Have a setup that's working OK but tang changes of 0.5mm result in 5 or 6 mm changes in the clear tube. With a 1mm +/- 1mm tolerance it's frustrating and more an art than a science!

Gonna have a break, watch the grand final replay and have a beer. Reckon I'll be ready to tackle it again at half time.

You soon get the feel of how far to bend the 'tang' to get the desired result.
And you are right, it's a PITA.
The Saints havn't turned up yet. lol.

Nah the Saints are still in the change rooms lol

You're right about the feel. I reckon I answered my own question, it's an art not a science. Stopped trying to use a ruler, used my eye instead and all finished now. Time to put them back on the bike.

Have you done the bench sync'?
Make sure you have enough thread on the idle screw to back that sucker right off.
& push the bike up against the garage wall, on the side stand, before you ram the rack back on.

Yep, bench synched, fingers crossed. Mixture screws bottomed out and backed off 2 & 3/8 turns just loaded up the mp3 player with a bit of hard rock and we'll see how we go :)

me thinks I should have pulled the airboots back through the airbox before fitting the carbs back on the manifold. Not much space to work with. Time to call it quits for the evening and start again in the morning.

...or if th boots are pliable enough roll them back on themselves, like some other rubber goods you may be familiar with, worked for me..

A quick warming with a heat gun works wonders. What takes an hour with two people and much cursing and swearing without warming - can be done in five minutes with properly warmed boots and one person. Ask me how I know.

Thanks guys, ended up using some Armor All on the boots and worked them back into place from inside the airbox, took awhile and a bit of cursing but got them on. Suprisingly the bike started :D easily but now have to chase down a high rev problem but will post probs in the xj chat forum if I need to.
