did you try using an impact wrench/screwdriver? they've amazed me in how they can break something loose without stripping the bolt or screw head.

I had the same problem, use something thin and softly nudge it between the mating surfaces, careful not to point it so it can dig into any metal, and pry it off. Its frustrating but it will come off. You might have to persuade it to come off. Also, some penetrating oil helps as well.

I popped mine a few times with a rubber hammer and it came loose.

I have beat the crap out of it... I have been trying to get in between it as well, but I have a tool I made That I want to try. It is a modiffied flat head ground very thin. I think I can get that in there. If only I could find it. I think It is packed up from my move.

Oh, and the screws are out the cover just wont come off.

It looks like some one used a gascket sealer.. I have never used it, so i know thing about it. I was always told NOT to use it, as this is what can happen. But i am not sure. I just try to stay away from using any sealer on any gaskets. I have also found this stuff in my carbs. The po must have had a thing for it. The first time I found it all in my bowls... It wasn't very nice. I gave up for tonight.

You can use RTV or whatever on the cover side, but not on the engine side.

Its frustrating, but you can get a flat blade down the left side on the very front, a couple of taps to get it a little loose, take another and go up from where the frame is and try to tap that loose. Keep going back and forth with that and some finess, you will get it off. The biggest concern is gouging the metal with the screwdriver or whatever you are using. I was timid to use force on it, but it might take a bit of it.

There are two Tools you need for such situations.

A Hammer: Rubber / Plastic Head.
Helps loosen things without leaving a mark of a ding in the Cover.

    A STANLEY Putty Knife.

Grind the 90º Corner of one side -- "Rounded" (Removing the point)
    Sharpen the Tool.
From the remaining point ... across the end ... the rounded end ... and down the side from the rounded-off point.

Use and Oil Stone to finish the sharpening of the Blade.

    When you are done.
You should have a razor-sharp edge to place between the Mating Surfaces and a flat edge to Tap upon to get the Tool wedged between surfaces.

Use a Brush and brush-on Lacquer Thinner where you can fit the Tool.

I can't find my Paint scrapper. I was using my rubber hammer tapping on it here and there to see if it would move a bit. I just really do not want to score the surface. Will have to pick a new tool up tomorrow I guess.

HEh, yea I already have this exact hammer, actualy two of them. I have a big one and small one. Of course they have seen better days. I had a paint scrapper but have no idea where it is any more. I have Every tool you need to build an airplane, oddly enough thats almost exactly what you need to build a bike to.
