carb problem

    when the engine gets hot on my bike [xj650 maxim 1981] the revs stay very high when slowing down for a junction or at traffic lights, leaving me with no engine braking, this ofcourse tests the brakes, its like trying to stop my horse when its playing up. thanks and any advice would be appreciated 8O 8O
    P.S. the trottle cable is free

    Take the caps off & pollish the slides & bores, check for any holes in the diaphrams, get them so that shut with a clunk.

    Did you do anything to your carbs before your bike started to do that? It may be you just need to adjust the idle on your bike. When the bike is "cold" the idle will be slower on the bike. As it warms up the rpms will go up and you have to idle it down with the knob located on the rear-bottom/center of the carbs. You can give that a try. If that does not fix it pulling the carbs will be in your future.

    I would agree. Adjust the idle when the bike is hot and see how it works out.
