Am I the only person on there who isn't using some sort of auction snatcher??

The last few auctions I've bid on and lost when I've been outbid in the dying seconds of the auction...

Just missed out on 2 mint mufflers for my 900... sold for 69 Euro

    Gutted

That's just standard tactics when bidding on anything...never show all your cards until the dealer asks for them.

You also may have been outbid by lines of code, not another live participant. There's software available to do just that, so serious Ebayers don't have to monitor every single auction as it winds down.

All that snipping does is keep the other guy from getting a chance to up his bid. In the end the high bidder wins.

I never use snipping software. I bid my max the first time and I'm either the high bidder in the end or not.

I'll often place my bid in the final few seconds to keep other bidders from deciding to up their maximum after seeing my bid.

Last fall I had an item for sale that was bid about $85 going into the last minute of the auction. Winner paid $213 for it. Tells me I'm not the only one.

Bottom line on items that are unique/rare and you gotta have: decide what the maximum is you are willing to pay and put the bid in during the last 30 seconds of the auction.

That seems to be the general practice for alot of people, myself included. I always underbid, that way when you are outbid it gives you a little room to play with in the last 30 seconds

I've missed a few items waiting 'till the last minute. Guess I would go with MiCarl's strategy, it has worked for me in the past, though I've stopped using E-bay since their seller costs went up. I would hope that the message would have been clear to the Flea-bay folks to return the old protocols but I guess not enough of us turned our backs.

I use auctionsnipe..I know it may not be "ethical",alot of times I'm not around to bid at the last seconds, and if you just put in a maximum bid, that still allows other bidders to drive up the price. 8O
    just my 2 cents

I just put in the max I'm willing to pay for something on my first bid, and then wait and see if I win or not,

I use that Auction Sniper too.
If everyone puts in their top bid it just runs up the price, I also cant be there for the end of the auction all the time. The sniper puts it in for me in the last few seconds, if it wins I pay them 1% of the sale price.
100.00= 1.00 If it is ove 500.00 I want to put my own bid in myself for that price
