This is the place to post what you know about the history of your XJ550. Past owners, upgrades, just about anything of interest about your bike prior to you obtaining it.

With the help of the Internet, Email and the like I am putting together the history of my 1982. Purpose - help determining what service has been done before and WHEN - bring it on brothers

I am back 4 owners now- Mass USA to Kingston Ontario - to Barrie Ontario - one of the owners now lives on the west coast of the USA in LA

would be great to read others history

more from me to come soon

I'll play! A good friend of mine bought the 550 Seca new in '81. He rode it for most of the summer then got cut off, laid it down and stuffed it under a camper. It was an insurance write-off. He bought it back from insurance for $1,000.00, we put $1,000.00 worth of new parts on it and I've had it ever since. There is a small dent in the frame where a passenger peg bracket hit it and a small piece of the right side cases broke off. The dent I ignore and JB Weld has kept the broken piece in the cases for almost 30 years.
I've done the usual things like tires, chains, sprockets and hand grips. Brakes pads and shoes have been replaced and stainless steel lines added. Halogen headlight, LED taillight bulbs, new seat cover, right side battery cover replaced, one tank emblem, valve cover gasket, tach drive seal and o-ring, fork seals, replaced fuse box, rebuilt carbs, rebuilt petcock, wheel bearings and replaced a broken rear motor mount bolt. Yoshimura header replaced the stock mufflers when they rusted out after only a couple years.
Petcock will be replaced this spring as I can't get the original to consistantly shut off.
Bike sat from '93 to '02 due to poor wages and three small kids. Kids are bigger and leaving home and wages have improved. :D

Sorry for the slow reply - figured the forum would give me some kind of heads up when someone posted a reply - guess not lol - the only thing I can add about my bike is that during clean-up I found sand lol - guess one of the owners lived near a beach somewhere on the Atlantic ocean lol - I am driving the bike now and except for finding out I will need to rebuild the clutch soon everything is fantastic - I have really missed having one all these years - now when the weather is warm and sunny I have soemething else to look forward to when I get home from work - if you can tell me where I cn find the clutch parts it would be great - drive safe
