Just picked up a 1983 Maxim 750 needing some TLC. Pulled the carbs apart and they don't have the Jet cover that is normally under the diaphragm. Is it important? Is is needed? To be honest, I am fairly certain that these carbs are un-molested since 1983. Screws haven't been mangled, and the bike had been parked for more then a decade. :?

Some bikes had them and others didn't. I have a 650 with them in and I don't see that they really do anything.

I have bikes with them and without I dont see any difference in the performance.

That might make enough sense. I don't understand their purpose. As often as I have rebuilt these things, I don't really understand them a whole lot better.

I've got carb sets off of an 80, 81, and 82 650. The 80/81s have them, the 82s don't. I've also seen them left off of later years. The bike runs fine with or without them so I'd not worry about it too much.
