so i have been trying to clean up the 80's design of this bike, and want to get rid of the ugly (my opinion, just an opinion) turn signals, and tailight.

here is what i am looking into, and i am not thinking of keeping them in the housing that comes with it, i want to build my own brackets and incorporate them into the bike on each side.

You'll have to upgrade your flasher relay to electronic, which will cost more than the lights & if you are dumping the bracket you could do better getting the lights separate, you will also have to change out the front set up, flasher wise.

ya thats what i was thinking about the front too.. it needs to be cleaned up a lot as well.

i have converted some of my quads over to led's and have a good amount of experience with wiring and electronics, it comes down to what you just said, that the electronic flasher will cost just as much if not more than the lights all together.

An electromagnetic flasher should only cost you about 9 bucks from autozone, at least that's all that it cost me.

Remember you get what you pay for. Those cheap LED lights are not very bright, they are hard to see in the daylight. That is why the pics show a night shot of the lights to make them look good. I got a set similar to those and all that was useable was the housing. I ended up buying new LED lights and sockets to install. The new lights and sockets cost another 30$.

mlew- i was wondering if that would be the case. around here it is usually gloomy and overcast, so bright lights are a must. i was thinking of going to a local truck stop/ chrome shop to see what they have there, i know there are some really nice and decently priced bright led lights.

i might just and up getting a nice brake light/ taillight combo, then get some different slim profile led turn signals so i can avoid an all in one system that is prety much useless.

    thanks guys!

Every bike I've seen with cutesy LED turn signals might as well have not had turn signals; little tiny teardop LEDs that can't be seen in the daylight are no improvement.

I've seen countless crotch rockets with tiny LED signals and they simply aren't bright enough to be effective-- you have to look for them to see them at all.

You can get modern, sexy turn signals that WORK; but they probably won't be LEDs.

If your bike is an early 80's Maxim 650 I would like to convert back to factory turn signals. I have an '81 650 Maxim. I HATE the squirrley little aftermarket carbon fiberish lights I put on it because the original stalks were broken. They are not LED or we could work a trade.

    pm sent.

sorry, i am going to keep the originals when i do it. i am not much for the tiny little ones, i agree they are hard to see, but there has to be a lot better looking ones out there than the originals.

Re: what do you think of these all-in-one taillights/ turn l

I've noticed several sport bikes with those LED brake lights with the intigrated turn signals in them and they are not at all very effective. The brake light is barely bright enugh to get noticed from behind (not very safe) and the turn signal function is very dim, and not at all good for daytime use. They shine bright enough at night, but then most lights do.
I could never understand the latest trend with blacked out lights and clear lense turn signals on autos/bikes. Alot of them are not very effective and attention getting, which is what one would want for warning others of their intentions. And when one puts those mini or ultra small signals on a bike, it's asking for someone to miss them and possibly cause an accident by not seeing what your intentions are.
Looks is on thing, but safety is more important. A showbike is a showbike, but a daily rider is a whole 'nother story.
