how do i get the airbox back on ????? xj400 divvy

    hi everyone im new to the forum !! anyway purchased a non running project xj400 diversion (jap import) 1993 after reading the carb cleaning topic i have stripped and cleaned carbs twice now and finally got her to burst into life and sounds well i might add ,the problem i have now is getting the airbox back on is there a secret trick to it as for the life of me cannot get it to go back on, do i really need a big persuader to manage this !!!!!

    I have sent you a PM. You really need a manual as this model is reasonably different from the earlier XJ's. Sometimes the carb to air filter boots respond to dunking in hot water to regain their original shape.

    Try a small amount of grease around the rim of the carb necks. This will help the boots slide on without grabbing.

    ive tryed everything to get this on it just doesnt fit get strange feeling it never did ? can someone tell me is there a difference between the xj diversion S and N in carb sizes as think it may have incorrect model airbox the necks are a lot smaller than the carbs

    As the 400 was an import, it's hard to say. There certainly are internal carb differences between early, late and US versions of the 600. As most Japanese 400's fall into a particular licence category, they are likely to be in a high state of tune (Larger carbs?), whereas the divvy 600 was a commuter model.

    A number of members make their own airbox boots from plumbing couplers. You might get funny looks from the guy in Homebase though!!!
