shim diameter?

    does anyone know the diameter of the valve shims on a xj700?

    Xj700 air or water cooled ?
    The air cooled uses a 29mm shim, I'm not sure on the water cooled. Might be 7.48mm from what I can find.

    be sure to check that they have a nice chamfer around the edge. Some shims fit diameter-wise but have a sharper edge. Down in the pocket in the bucket that they go in there is some amount of radius in the corner, a sharp edge on the shim won't fit and will seem too tight until it mangles its way into place (boogering up your bucket and burning your valves in the process)

    Also be careful as there are some makes out there that run something like a 29.5mm that sure do seem like they fit... but they don't.
    a 27mm will drop in nice and easy and you'll be all kinds of happy with how easy the task was until ya spit it. Then your vocabulary is sure to expand.
