I need to replace the speedo guts on a 1982 XJ750J Maxim (the oddball one) for a friend of mine. I have the whole process figured out EXCEPT how to remove the odometer knob so that the unit can be removed from the inner housing. I figure there must be some trick to it that i just dont know..Please help me

1980 Yamaha maxim xj650G with 10K miles. I have a squeek, rubbing noise comming from speedometer. Tried grease in cable then onhooked cable from speedometer and sound went away. sound is comming from inside speedometer. How can you get grease or oil inside gauges to quuiten squeek? speed indicater still works fine, no jerking ect.
    tks Bill
