I'm seriously considering LED rear blinkers and LED bulbs for the front in my Windjammer (lots of reflective surface inside).

Where is the flasher normally hiding and is it 3 pins? 82 XJ750J Maxim

Without checking my wiring diagrams, anyone know what colors plug into it by default?

These are the changes I'm considering that will compliment my Windjammer and personal taste.

It should be behind the right side cover, its a little black box. There are 3 terminals marked B(battery), L(lamp) and C(cancel). I don't know the color codes for the 750 Maxim. A automitive 3 prong flasher will not work in place of it. A two prong unit between B and L will, you will loose the auto cancel function if you do that. It is possible to add a circuit to a 2 prong flasher to keep the auto cancel function. There are some articles on how to do that in the forums, its not very hard.

The battery and starter solenoid are under the RH side cover. I think its under the left one. I'll look when I get out to the garage later.

I was looking at the parts diagram, it looks to be next to the starter relay. Possibly under the right cover. I'm not really sure, its been 25 years since I had my XJ750.

Thanks for info so far. I'll probably have to dig for mine when I have time. But knowing it "should" be on the right side SOMEWHERE will help.

I'm not worried about auto cancel. In "farm land" you should have your blinkers on longer anyways.

Most of the "LED" flash fixers I see on eBay tend to have 3 prongs...

    Here's an example.

The pinout on the 3 prong is different and won't work in place of the stock Yamaha flasher.
If you are running LEDs front and rear you will need one of these. The ground wire is needed for 100% LED use.

If you are combining LEDs and incandesant bulbs then a standard 2 prong electronic flasher will work.

I am a little more confused now (not that hard :p) about 2 prong with ground vs. 3 prong.

So let me ask for help in a different way.

Please help me find (eBay, auto store, or other websites) a flasher replacement that can:
Run 100% LED & Run Mixed Lights (in case the front fleabay bulbs fail)

If I'm reading it right the one mlew linked would do that but w/o some caffeine I'm not 100% sure.

Please remember I don't care about auto cancel much.

    Thanks in advance

I've still never seen an LED turn signal that was as visible in bright sunlight as a good old 1156 behind an amber lense.

Just something to keep in mind.

Flasher unit is located underneath the tank, hanging off a tab near the right coil. If you check out the guide I did up for Chacal on replacing the coils, you'll see exactly where it is.

I do seem to remember it being three wires, I think hard soldered.

Up under the tank, three wires. I'll get you color codes tonight. I've installed a two pin flasher, check one of my earlier posts (like years ago).

I have to agree with Fitz. There are very few LED turn signals built with HO LED's. The electrical load for a turn indicator is not all that great as they are used intermittently as in blink blink. If you want to use LED's on your bike you might want to consider using them for auxiliary lighting such as HO brake lights, running lights, etc.

    I'm still just considering it.

I'll probably just start with the mirrors I want.

Hey Metal, guess what! I have an opinion on mirrors too. (Figures!) If you REALLY want to see what's going on behind you check out bar end mirrors. They actually stick out far enough that you aren't looking at your armpits. Best mirrors I've ever used on a motorcycle. The best of the bar ends were Napolean Bar End mirrors but they seem to be a little harder to get than they used to be. Ebay has some decent looking sets for a great price.

As for the LED's? I'm an LED lighting whore! I put 'em everywhere I can find a place to stick 'em! I am totally unsafe in AutoZones lighting aisle! You can pile them on every available surface of your bike and still not exceed the output of the charge circuit.

The single best lighting project would be to figure out a cost effective way to convert from a sealed beam headlight unit to HID (xenon). The difference is unbelievable! The HID module including 1 piece ballast/ignitor, lamp, and associated wiring can be purchased for $30! www.ddmtuning.com The trick is to find the appropriate housing that will be appropriate for a motorcycle application without breaking the bank.

    Here you go:
Yellow/Green is output to the self-canceling unit. Ignore this line.
Brown is the +12 input from the signal fuse.
Brown/White is the output to the turn signal switch (consider it the negative side of the equation). From the switch it goes out to the signal.
Good luck and there are two pin units that function just fine.
