Need Help With Specs

    I've searched around a little bit, and came up dry.

    I'm FINALLY going to be picking up my '81 750 Seca later this week or early next week, and need to know a few things while I am pre-researching parts.


    What is the handle-bar diameter?

    Will these style brake master cylinders supply enough fluid to the brakes and anti-dive unit? I like how clean they look with the resivoir built in rather than having an external soft-ball sized plastic thing hanging off of it.

    Can someone post a picture of from the top, and at a 45* of the bike without the seat on, and one from the top without the brakelight assmebly?

    bars are 7/8".
    I don't think the M/C has anything to do with the anti-dive.
    What bike is that off?

    Thanks for bar info!

    The anti-dive unit is driven by the front brake master cylinder so more fluid is required to stop (seeing as some of the fluid that would normally go to stopping the bike, goes to the anti-dive)

    IDK what bike it's off of, I saw that style first on a kawi ninja 250, and really liked it.

    i did't think the anti dive was in any way tied to the front brakes what so ever.

    i know my 82 maxim 650 had anti dive. but there was nothing in the front brakes that connected to the forks. not sure if my 81 650 had anti dive.

    huh, cause from some of the articles i've read, and pix i've seen, it is. but, I could be wrong. I've only seen the bike for 2 minutes buried behind a moped. I guess i'll find out for sure when I see it in person! lol

    The 650 didn't have anti-dive; it might have had air forks.

    The 750 Secas and some of the other 750/900s had the anti-dive; it is indeed operated by brake fluid pressure but there is no real volumetric difference involved.

    The anti-dive consists of brake-fluid operated external VALVES that shut off a portion of the forks' fluid flow under compression to effectively stiffen them. Sort of.

    Fitz is right about the antidive. The brake fluid operates a piston, that externaly actuates a fork oil valve bolted on to the forks. Two peices that are on different fluid "circuits." Each of which have to be cleaned out to work properly.

    750 secas actually have a "cleaner" master cylinder...it's behind the headlight and cable actuated :roll: . The bane of many a XJ750R owners existence...but it also means you'll need a new brake line to either run from your new MC to the junction, or run two from the new MC to the calipers (I think the former is recommended, but I haven't done either).

    Well if it's cable opperated, then it should be a LOT cheaper to replace the levers. Cause that's where my hangup is. If it's on the bars, or if it's a light, it needs to be replaced. haha

    Chacal has levers (they are special...since they have a slot for the cable similar to the clutch lever, instead of depressing the master cylinder).

    With it sitting like that you might want to consider new brake lines if original, and that'll cost you given that there's 4 flexible lines

    Should I go with 14 GA wire, or will 18 be enough?

    18 AWG should be just fine for the brake switch (stock size anyway).
