very nice looking bike. low miles.

i test drove one of those though. and it was more of a scooter then my older 650. wasn't impressed at all. 55 seemed to be it's max speed and rpms were quite high.

Ummm, yeah. It's an "airhead" XJ, 700ccs. Yes it would be a high-revver.

However, if it's top speed was 55, something was wrong with it. An XJ550 will do well over 100mph (in proper tune of course.)

Nice bike; I hadn't noticed before that Yamaha didn't use the "swirly" wheels on those.

i couldn't say for sure. the speedo said i was doing 80. revs were 8k.

the scenery around me though, sure wasn't going by anywhere near as fast as my suzi does at 80. and cars were passing me by.

the motor looked like a 700. but sure didn't act like a 700.

I use to have a 81 CB750 and my 700 is just as fast,a lot lighter and handles better.

Are you sure you were out of third gear?
Redline (9500) rpm in 3rd will get you 91 mph
in fourth you are doing 112 and fifth you'd be doing 129
UNLESS of course the clutch is slipping or someone did some other mods.
