How do you know? by looking at the plugs? first set the floats to give the correct fuel levels, before tinkering with the pilot mixture screws.

Connect a clear plastic tube to the drain / s & loosen the drain screw / s, the fuel should level off a couple of mill' below the gasket line.

Igor; You have "pod" filters on the bike, don't you? It's impossible to tell you exactly what the "right" jets are because the stock jets are most likely not "right" any longer. Let's attend to other things before any re-jetting.

You adjust the floats by JUST BARELY TWEAKING the little "tang" on the float that operates the needle valve.

The best thing to do is as in Wiz's picture, take the rack off the bike and get it good and level; then check each carb as illustrated. The fuel level should be from 1mm to 3mm below the edge of the carb body, as indicated by the little blue lines in Wiz's pic.

If any need to be adjusted, then you remove the float bowl and carefully adjust. Start by checking the floats; if you have one that is not shuttiing off at all, this process will reveal that as well.

d8 and dr8 are virtually the same plug dude.the r just means it has a resister in it.this stops the spark plugs interfering with tv signals etc.

That is all that the R means and why should I care about the TV interference??

yes,its all it means.its not all it interferes with, but it makes no differance to you when you are riding.someone once told me plugs without resistors will break down easier than thos with, but i couldnt say that is true or not.if i am buying,i buy with.but thats just because i think i am getting more for my money.

If you have resistors in the caps you don't also need resistors in the plugs.

Hey - how about a nice, fat spark generator to mess up everyone's cell phone and radio so they pay attention to "that motorcycle" !!

Yeh, the 'R' weakens the spark, but it is longer.

Igor; You'll need to check a manual; unless one of the other XJ400-4 owners can chime in.

Didn't you reinstall an airbox? That will affect the answers to the jetting questions.

D8EA's should be correct; your bike has resistor caps.
