Hi there - I'm wondering if someone knows if an XS400-Tank will fit on a XJ 650 Seca model without having too much troubles...
    Thanx
    Tom

    Almost for sure not.

Might depend on WHICH XS400 you're talking about; there've been a few.

Even so, the answer is still most likely the same.

i am in the process of fitting an xs650 tank onto an xj60 frame.it takes a lot of modifying.here are some pics....
    standard frame
    [IMG]
    frame tubes cut...
these 2 spars need halving to allow the tank to drop over them,
    [IMG]
so i made these braces and had them welded in place to add strength..
when the 2 spars have been cut,the tank will drop down to sit like this....
without the chopping about,it sits like this...

I'm concerned about the two frame tubes you "amputated" in the first couple of pics. You eliminated one side of a triangle there, and haven't replaced it's strength with the bracing you've indicated.

Look at the big heavy gussets supporting the front ends of the tubes you cut away; those removed tubes apparently carry quite a bit of load.

If you don't replace the triangulation there, I fear you're creating what will turn out to be one squirrely handling motorcycle, if not a downright dangerous one.

I had the same thought as Fitz. Maybe you could put a pipe or flat piece across the 2 cut pieces, then run a single pipe up to the backbone with a small gusset at each end.

thx a lot - looks great! unfortunatly in my country (the land of chocolate and watches...) it's impossible to modify something on the frame without having troubles with the authority... cheers Tom

PS- to you all: Have a great new year! and all the best....

Are you in need of an XJ650R (Seca) tank? Or were you looking to change the appearance?
