    What are you lubing your cables with. What seems to work the best and doesn't make to much of a mess ?

    I've been using a spray can of white lithium grease. It has that long red nozzle that makes it easy to get in there...also heard automatic transmission fluid does the trick.

    First off: DO NOT use WD40; it quickly becomes gummy when exposed to heat. (Lesson learned the hard way by myself and others.)

    You can use motor oil or ATF; however application is a bit of a messy pain. I would be concerned about how the white grease does with heat.

    Personally I use Tri-Flow spray lube: http://www.triflowlubricants.com/Tri-Fl ... icant.html It's impervious to heat/cold (in our operating ranges anyway) and holds up well;

    I apply it using one of these:

    Highly recommended. Been using both with excellent results for years.

    +1 on Tri Flow. It's a superior cable lube.

    I work as a bicycle mechanic and we use triflow on all cables on bikes. The throttle / choke cable on our xj's are not really that different except a bit larger.
