Disassemble rear shock - done!

    How to disassemble this rear shock. I've tried to press the upper plate / shell down and it go down 3 mm. but no more, is there a trick?

    Hi Pirok,

    if it's possible, I'd say you'll have to compress the spring first with a suitable compressor. Then you'll be able to see how everything else fits together.

    I have disassembled these before. There is a circlip underneath that you need to pry out before the cover comes off. This is visible when you compress the cover down. Beware of little springs falling out when you remove the cover (these make the clicking noises when you twist the cover). Then you need to have a spring compressor before you can remove the top shackle. You also need a very slim wrench to hold a nut underneath the shackle. Very fiddly stuff (dangerous too if you don't have proper equipment; that spring is under severe compression). Good luck!

    I made my own shocl compressor with threaded rods and pipe fitting. It looks kinda crude, but works like a charm! You need to get the large end just a tad bigger than the removable clip, but small enough so it doesn't slip over the end of the shock. The small end (bottom of shock) is just a large washer with three hole drilled in it. Hope it makes sense!
