I'm looking to get rid of the big ol back end and get a new taillight. I like this style of light

Just wondering if im going to run into any trouble wiring this up? From what I'm reading I need a duel filiment. Would I be better off just taking the guts out of my factory taillight and rigging it up in the new housing? Let me know what you think.
    Thanks

If you can place your original dual filament housing (or buy a new one from auto store) into it, that would be best since you are going to use it as a tail/brake light!

I see a lot of those Tail-lights on Old Bikes, out-here, in New England.

The Harley-Boys run 'em with a "Blue-Dot" in the middle of the top red lens.

You can get several styles of Tail Light Mounting Brackets from P V Auto in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.
They have Original and Reproduction Brackets and Mounts.

    Look at their Catalog.

If you're getting rid of your back end, you could go to dual-filament red turn signals - use the lower wattage filament for the turn signal/running light function and the higher wattage filament for the brakes. No more center light at all. Some Harley owners do that. I think someone here did it too (check the modifications forum). You will need a dual light controller box to separate the turn signal function from the running light function (similar to the utility trailer conversion boxes) and you will need to come up with a new mount/light for your license plate.

The LED truck lights work very well for the tail light on a bike. I have the oblong LED tail light on my Seca now. It's very bright!! I mounted it under the bobtail fender:

    Day7a1,
I believe I got that light at Walmart for about $16 or so. There are alot of places that have them (truck stops or Fleet Farm stores) but they want a bit more for them ($24- $26 each) Also, there are plenty of them on Ebay for even cheaper.
The way it's mounted is I made L-brackets mounted to the inside of the fender (where the signal lights mount) and made a flat aluminum plate and just used screws to attach it to the L-brackets. The light itself is just glued on with GOOP. Being the LED lights rarely, if ever burn out, I figured gluing it on would be the best. I could've installed it in the rubber grommet that came with it, but I would need to cut the opening out to install the rubber. That took up too much room and looked tacky.
You can also use one of the 4" round LED lights that would work or mount it on the side of the bike if you like that idea.
They take less juice to operate, are much brighter than any stock tail light, water proof, vibration proof and last forever. You won't have to be concerned about your tailight burning out either. Can't beat that!!

And you use the trailer adapter to wire it up to switch from dual filament to whatever it uses? I could prolly figure that out on my own, but I won't see my bike for about a month longer!
