I just got this motorcycle on Monday and I want to ride it today, but I don't know how to change the oil and even worse, what type of oil it needs. If anyone can help me I would be very greatful.

    Hey Tracker...

Underneath the motor there is a large bolt... sump plug. Some models it's closer to the front than others.

Oil... I'm using 10w 40, but just go to your local motorcycle shop and they will be able to give you the right stuff for your bike.

Oh and if you're changing the oil, might be a good idea to do the filter too. Grab a replacement element from the bike shop at the same time you're getting the oil. Filter element goes in the round finned lump that attached to the bottom front of the motor between the exhaust headers.

    :)

    Alive told you right.

My XJ700N Has a bolt under the front of the engine to drain the sump.
I use 5W50wt Castrol Syntec for my oil of choice.

You can also use just about any oil that doesnt have friction modifiers in it, that will cause your clutch to slip in time.
When you change the filter make sure to replace the o-rings or you'll have leaks.

    DONT use oil additives.

I've also found some stores like Checker and Auto Zone to carry some oils specificaly designed to be used in motorcycles.

You need to be sure not to fill the case more than 90% up on the sight glass with your bike on the center stand. (top 10% of the sight glass should not have oil showing in it)
That way if your petcock starts leaking and fuel gets into your oil, you'll notice your oil level increase.
