I just bought an 82 seca 550 with 5,500 miles. The guy I bough it from had it sitting in the garage for a good 5 years since the last time he rode it.

I have done some research and I think this bike came stock with (4) 28mm Mikuni's. I have found round-style and flat-style Mikunis. Which type is the right one for my bike? Or, am I totally wrong all together with the size as well?? I havent torn into it yet, any suggestions?? Thanks!

Did the bike not come with Carbs? If it did I would highly suggest getting your hands dirty and cleaning and rebuilding them. You will most likely end up needing to clean a new set anyhow.

That being said if you need to find a rack they are on ebay occasionally...

Correct; they're Mikuni BS28's, CV carbs.

Why do you feel the need to replace the carbs? (Other than to maybe get away from CVs and spend a lot of money in the process.)

If it's an '82, and it only has 5500 miles, it sat for a lot more than 5 years. Maybe not with that owner, but it sat. You're going to have to go through the whole bike anyway, as mentioned above why not just rebuild the carbs?

Start with the rear brake, though: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15874.html VERY IMPORTANT.

You'll need to check the valves, initial adjust was supposed to have been at 3000 and I'll bet they weren't: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14827.html

Welcome aboard. The 550 Seca is an awesome little bike, and with some work to put it back in fully operational condition, you won't be disappointed. I got one of mine with 7100 miles on it, and once I got done with it, it's like a new bike. You've got a real puppy there, I'm jealous.
