ah gotcha will get the heat on it tomorrow, hopefully it gives that good old crack noise and lets up,i really wanna do this build with little to no cost at all,and really cant afford to take it to anyone.so far i got 850$ in the build including a running bike...lol..put some Windowws Bars on it,and found a swap meet 1970's steel Yamaha gas tank, little rusty but hey for 20$ ill deal with it,should look killer.Im gonna run some mini K&N filters on it and shorty pipes then....prolly spend the rest of my life tunning it up..LOL...but thats what its all about.

    Nice.
It's esay to over spend on the odds and end in working on one of these bikes. I suggest making you self a list of your must haves first. new oil, filters, plugs, pads, etc, do some window shopping at the parts store and add it all up. then do the same for your wants, and add em all up. Then you can probably add another 2-3 hundred dollars in this that you would of never thought of before you started the project. Like a new torque wrench, sand paper, paints, electrical terminals, masking tapes, acetone, etc Trust me these things add up.
If you make a list to start with and try to stick to it, it will save you in the long run.

great advice Camelman really appreciate it,its been ok so far, bike runs nice, but who knows when you start changin stuff, bikes seem to not want to be changed..lol...just focusing on the small stuff for now, primarily the studs in the head, but after that im gonna attack that horrible wiring mess..lol..all i want is 3 wires Ignition,Brake, headlight.dont need anything else...just a barebones chop,i really want to make it diffrent,im gonna rework that old school Yamaha tank so it will fit, then just gonna clean up the frame and grind off any hangers and what not i really dont need.

How about worry about things like possibly delaminating rear brakes, front brake components that are way past their service life, tires (less than 6 years old?,) etc., before doing any customizing.

Get it running, get it SAFE then start modding. You will have to spend some money to make the bike safe.

AMEN guess he does not realize that the front brake is most of your stopping power. Go fast and try to stop with brake fade. All i can think of is front and rear drum brakes going fast and trying to stop let alone single rear drum.
I should not say this but i will and mean no harm by it. It doesn't matter if it doesn't stop and i get hurt or worse as long as it looks cool

Leave the break dude and do some funky paint on the caliper and rotor if you wanna look cool.
Trust me the rear brake on a 650 aint shit! I've got a 82 650 and got in a bad habit of just using the rear when I first started, Almost got my self killed becuase I got my self in a panic situation and only locked up the rear till I finally work up and grabed enough front to save my ass. Basicaly muscle memerory is what will save your but in a bad situation and becuase I was only using the rear I almost ophaned my children. Since then I took a motorcycle satey course and learned to always pratice apply the rear a split second before the front and using both every time I wanna slow down. Not to mention that rear break on a 650 will lock up in half a second if you hit it to hard.
~Peace dude I dont wanna be preachy here on this one but if you actually plan on riding that thing when you are done, Then remeber, it hard to look cool in a pine box.

    ~Camel

Yea, the tanks aren't the best looking. I swapped my Seca tank for a Maxim (hard to believe but IMHO they do look better LOL). There are other Japanese bikes with the same problem...

BTW if your welding skills are up to it, JapRatXJ seems to have done a GOOD job with his tank...
