I just ordered a set of 15 inch black apes , cables and brake line, a side mount license plate mount aannnnd my forward controls! The guys there are phenomenal!! For anyone with a maxim 700 their controls for the 750 will work just need longer bolts to make it all the way through the frame...

On another subject....I started my bike up yesterday just to get the blood pumpin... I had a bunch of exhaust coming out one side but the other was next to none? I did cut off the stock mufflers and put a set of open V&H on it, There was also a bit of backfire or "popping" from the side with less exhaust flow if it makes a difference, any ideas???

Exhaust is going to follow the path of least resistance. Put your hand over 1 side the other should increase and visa versa possible baffle problem in the muffler under the bike

ya I think the problem is in that collector box....It's rotted to sh#t anyways and I have my local exhaust shop taking the bike and making up an exhaust for it here once I can ride it to him. 2 into 1 on both sides...Loooooonnnnggg all the way to the rear tire.

Are all 4 pipes heating up to the same temp? May not be running on all 4... Just a thought

i don't really know? How does one test that? Just give it a touch? Kidding! No I don't know...I have been really worried about "melting" a piston since I changed exhaust. My airbox is stock the only mod to that stuff is the stock mufflers are gone and it's an open flow pipe on it now, I did not re jett anything because the bike seemed to be running no different, The only difference I felt was on the throttle, It actually felt much more responsive...from what I gather that may be contradictive, Idk. But like I said I have noticed no difference from when I bought it and I'm pretty confident that Mr. Hoggfiddles gave me a very good running machine :) Thank You Hoggfiddles! I would think it would run pretty raggy much like a car with a bad valve or piston or what have you am I correct in assuming that?

Don't touch the headers, hold your hand near, you can tell if they are all even.

Thanks,ya I was just kidding about touching them...but about it NOT running on all 4's, am I correct to assume this thing would not run very nicely if not? I've had a lot of vehicles (Being a used car dealer) that have dropped valves or lost a cylinder and they run like SH%T! Definitely know something is wrong for sure.

Yea would run like a 3 legged dog if it was missing.... Don't worry about melting the piston, not going to happen unless it's running too lean, way too lean... white pipe lean.

How about some photos of this beast?

Ya I figured it would run pretty bad. I will post some pics after the bars and forward controls get installed. But here is what she is now...the only thing different is the stock mufflers are now V&H pipes mounted exactly where the old ones where (thats gonna change as previously said...going with 2 into 1 long pipes all the way back to rear tires). The rear seat is going back on shaved down some and saddle bags, and the 15" apes...next year is a Jack Daniels paint job! pics to be posted by the end of next week! Thanks guys.

Did TC Bros provide you with the longer bolts you needed, or did you pick up the longer bolts after the fact, once you realized what you needed? I want to purchase their forward controls for my XJ700, and just wondering if I'll need to buy anything extra.

Also, can't wait to see pics with the new handlebars... I've been trying to decide between apes, mini apes, or drag bars.

    Thanks

If you're more the "cruiser" type of rider, I'd go with the Apes, I'm more of a "sport" rider so I went with the straight bars on my XS400 bobber. Fits my standard riding position better that way. But, with that being said, the Apes always look cool on bobbers. You build yours bratstyle or did you hardtail it?

Quick pic of my XS before the straight bars got installed

I am not sure about the 15" I am having a real hard time with finding cables....maybe there is someone here that knows where or who I can get extended cables for this thing? I have seen here that the 12" fit with stock a bit snug but fit.? So I stopped the order on the bars the forward controls will be here monday A.M, I really need some enlightenment on these cables...I called a local bike shop here and asked if they extend em and he said absolutely not!!! Can't be done! I think I remember a thread here about extending em and silver soldering??? I don't know but this is starting to get frustrating already...
