I was wondering what your experiences have been with the different carb synch sticks and gauges. Which is better, stick or gauges? What brand and style do you all prefer? I went to my local supplier and asked about getting the Motion Pro Synchpro and was told there are problems with the fluid bubbling and foaming up. Where is a good source for a good quality tool that won't cost me more than the bike?

You can get the job done with 1 vacuum gauge, cost, minimal, your input, considerable.

Will needle bounce be a problem with a vacuum gauge?

I have a SyncPro. It's a very precise instrument. The problem is that unless the Sync is pretty close to begin with you'll suck fluid out.

Another problem with the SyncPro is it doesn't have an absolute calibration. What this means is that you must calibrate it each time you use it and it really won't indicate what the vacuum level is, just how well balanced you are.

I've gone back to using the cheap Chinese four gauge set on the blue backer plate (with upgraded Vacuum hoses). It never sucks dry and I can tell at a glance at the overall vacuum level if I have a dead cylinder(s).

While the vacuum gauges aren't as precise as the SyncPro I find as a practical matter there is no noticeable difference in the result.

With either type you need a vacuum restriction to damp the flutter.

Myself, I have a Morgan Carbtune Pro and I love it. It's quick and easy to get everything matched up perfectly. No liquids or mercury involved. http://www.carbtune.com/

Where can I get the Morgan Carbtune Pro? Getting it from the UK will take too long I think.

I think Wizard is calling you a dummy Bigfitz. LOL. I just want a good reliable way to do my carbs. I don't want to be pulling my hair out trying to get the tool to work. If I get too frustrated I have to walk away and then I may never get it done.

Wiz can call me anything he wants as long as he doesn't call me OLD.

And I won't tell anyone he's a Nigel Mansell doppelganger.

I posted a link for the CarbTune, plus I think Len carries them too. For dummies or not, it works even better than the old original mercury "CarbStix" I used to borrow (until the guy moved away.) And it makes it sooo easy to get all 4 exactly the same, and in short order. Idling like a sewing machine in no time flat.

You will need a YICS tool too if you have a YICS motor (unless you want to use the oily rag method.)

I wasn't saying Fitz was a dummy, just saying the carbtune pro is a breeze to use, if I didn't have a friend with one, I would buy one.

I know you weren't, I couldn't resist. And you're right; breeze about describes it.

I saw that Chacal sells them. Thanks Fitz. Sorry for stirring up the pot with you and Wizard. I just couldn't resist. LOL. I will probably order the Carbtune from Chacal with a few other things I have on my list to get from him already.

Placed an order with Chacal this morning. I am getting the Morgan Carbtune, YICS tool, valve bucket tool and the parts I need to put the petcock and sending unit back in the tank. I will be ready to roll in a couple of weeks. I can't wait.

There are Vertical Vacuum Ports on each Manifold.
One will have a hose attached running to the Petcock.

For BEST Results using Synchronizing Devices to set the Vacuum Sync.
Fabricate "RESTRICTION DEVICES" to soften the fluctuations.

I use the homemade version and it works perfect for my inline 4 cylinder and my V-twin also. I feel no need to buy any over priced one as long as mine works as well as it does.
On my Seca, I synch no. 2 carb to no. 3, then #1 to #2, then #3 to #4. Then just to make sure I synch #1 to #4 just to see how close they are.
