sounds like your not getting fuel or fuel is bad did you check float level wet after cleaning carbs, floats installed upside down?

Do a forum search. At the top of this page you will see a small picture of a square box with a magnifying glass in it with the word search. Click on this
and the forum search will open. In the search query in the top box type in
not starting. You dont have to touch anything else scroll down to the button
marked search and click on this. All the topics that come up will have info
relating to not starting. You may find something to help in there. You can
type anything that you want into the forum search and end up with a lot
of help full stuff on a lot of topics.

Why the new computer (I assume you mean TCI module)? It would run with a different ignition module, but the spark advance curve is different between models so we'd need to know the part number on your TCI. It might not run "well"

To make an engine run, you need fuel (air and fuel mixed at the proper ratio), compression, and spark, all at the right time. Check for each.

I'd say start with compression, but know that out of spec valves can throw off your compression, as well as other more serious engine problems.

Check for spark, make sure to ground the plug on the engine head.

Fuel can be any number of things, from air leakage, to clogged passages, to clogged jets, and the bike will never start easily without the enrichment circuit cleaned.

Search the site for these topics, report back on each of these findings, and post if you have any questions.

ok well i have compression and i have spark and new computer is because it was smashed and watter damadge. i got one that does have a diffrent number on it but came off same size motor and same year as mine. i dont know the code off hand i am at school.. but with starter fluid wich i know not to use to much for it is not good for the motor it would run for a few seconds so i know its a fual problem but i cleand the jets and everything but is the biger jet go on the taller tower or does the smaller hole jet go there?

That "computer" thing on the front of the bike (with the speedo and tach in it) is only for checking servicable parts on the bike and does not have any control over the way it runs or operates, it's just an electrical checklist when you turn the key on. It's a joke if you ask me (but you didn't)
If your referring to the CDI box, you will not get the same performance if it is not the correct one for you bike. The Maxim and Seca ignition boxes do not work the same. You should get the correct one for the bike to run the way it was designed to.
So you use starting fluid to see if it will run? Good, now don't use it anymore. You know it runs, so your problem is with the carbs now. Bench synch them will get you very close or atlest good enough to run. Then go on from there.

I bought 3 spare TCI units off Ebay for my XJ650 and they may have a couple for your bike listed. I tested them all and they work ok. I keep
one in the tool box just in case one decided to crap its self when I am
200 miles from home. I put my brothers XJ750 TCI unit on my XJ650
just to see what would happen. It started ok but did not run good as
the advance curve was wrong. For the units I payed 95 dollars for the
first one 70 dollars for the second one and 25 dollars for the third one
that also had the voltage regulator still there as well. It just depends
on who has them for sale and how rare they think that they are getting
to find. You really need to get the right one for the bike.

I too have swapped the TCI unit from a 750 Maxim with the one on my 750 Seca just for the hell of it. It started just fine, but did seem to be sluggish when going thru the gears. The advance curve is different for sure. I guess it would get me homein a pinch, but it's not too likely that it will fail. The TCI is not one of the XJ weak points.
