    Hello.
Very very interesting forum, a wealth of information.
I'm new and I'm from Belgium.
I would like your help :)
I'm renovating a Maxim XJ 700 engine and I forgot my timing marks :-(
I see on the forum that there are different camshafts and my engine seems to be the same as Frankiegoesto who posted here:
    http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=2 ... shaft.html
    I try to put photos

I think the hole marks in green or red in the other must be aligned with something, but what?

I hope you can help me (I have already removed the camshafts 5 x)

I think the engine does NOT sucks gasoline (no depression) carburetors

 Pics are not here, i wish to say little round mark (2 mm ) on the 2 camshafts or the holes ( 6 mm) on the side of the last cams must be aligned with what

    Good evening to you all

I think that Model has ARROWS on the CAM that are to be aligned with INDICATOR Points on the CAM SHAFT BEARING CAPS which are on either side of the CHAIN TUNNEL.

There are two Caps (or Bridges) which function as Thrust Bearings, ... that have MARKS which the ARROWS Line up too.

I can't see the "STATIONARY POINTER" in any Photograph.

Step 1. Line-up the "T" Mark with the Stationary Pointer. This brings the No. 1 Cylinder to TDC and begins the process of correctly Timing the Engine.

You will have to have the No. 1 Cyl at Top Dead Center before you can begin.
    <><><><>

Do Not Turn the Crankshaft during the Timing Operation.
    Lube the Cam Bearings.
Install the Cams with the Marks Upward.
    Install the Dowels Pins
    Install the Bearing Caps --> w/o IN-3 & EX-3

You need to remove those cams before you turn anything or you'll bend some valves...

You're very nice to look after me.
Step 1: my stationary point is I think the vertical mark on the black sensor just above my letter T in the photo.
I saw the same photo on the web and it must be correct because it is the only place I'm at TDC.
There is no other stationary point visible.
    Ok i'm in TDC

    I don't think that's the Stationary Point.

The BOOK clearly shows a Pointer.

Pull the No. 1 Plug and look-in the Hole.

What you desperately need is a WorkShop Manual.

I'm sure that you can acquire a Manual and read the Timing Section.

The Step by Step procedure for Installing the Cams and Re-Timing the Engine is something you must do to have the Timing be correct.
