Just finished the paint job on the XJ1100 tank and side covers. Not sure yet if I like the cursive emblems. Time will tell, let me know your thoughts.

Is that a driveway paint job? If so, then nice work. Rattle can or compressor and gun? As far a cursive lettering, I didn't see any swear words.
More pics of the tank from different angles please.

Oh no, this guy has painted several bikes for me and does "high end" vintage car restorations. This paint job started out as a black with "Escolade" pearl, then we changed several times to end up with this. It is a 7 stage paint job with color sanding, ghost flames, pearl, more sanding, and then a almost chameleon paint job on the flames. The flames I have seen 4 different color so far depending on how the sunlight hits it. Anyway, I kind of wish we would have stayed with stock gold block lettering on the graphics.

I think the block lettering would have spoiled the lines on the flame job. The paint scheme emphasizes the round contour of the tank and the swerves of the flames would definitely suffered with stock block lettering.

Thanks, I appreciate those comments, was kind of "second guessing" on the overall finished product. He is working on a split window corvette right now and it is beautiful. Thanks again!

Looks Great, post more pics once you get them back on the bike. Im actually kinda torn between no lettering at all on the tank and what you have there either way. I would love to see the flames moving around in the sunlight

I really like the lettering on the tank and side covers. It kind of takes the bike out of the 80s and makes it look a little older. It is one of those things that is going to make your bike stand out.

I personally never liked the lettering "YAMAHA" on the tank. It seems to take away from the form and makes it look tacky. The paint paint job looks good without any lettering (keeps'm guessing what it is)
It's just nice when you pass one of those two-wheeled (V-twin) jack hammers and the look on their face is priceless!

Here's a couple more pics that I took today out in the sunlight. This tank is in absolutely "like new" condition. Any flaws you see are dust, that cling to it. LOL Anyway, I have seen blue, purple, green, charcoal. and a rust color. I'm starting to like it more each day, should be mounted on the bike in the next couple of weeks and I will post some final pics of the bike with the tank and side covers. Thanks for all the comments.

Look's fantastic and I really like the lettering, looks classier than the the old block style letters.

your first pics posted i didn't like the lettering but your latest pics have me changing my mind. i agree the block letters wouldn't have looked better but i also like no name on the tank at all, or maybe just the yamaha logo (triangular looking think, kinda like a hazmat zone).
the paint is beautiful, your last pics posted really show it off.
    nice job.

Thanks to everyone, I will post some final pics in a week or so when the bike is finished. Currently, the motor is getting re-painted, was torn between the silver or all black (with the sanded/polished fins), decided to go with the plain silver powdercoat and we'll see. I really do appreciate all comments both good and bad, that's why I posted to hear what everyone thought, it really helps hearing what people think and new ideas. Thanks again and more to come later.
