So just changed my oil for the season and got the bike running.. noticed that bank 1 exhaust was not warm, nor hot to the touch. Figured stuck float or something, so banged on the carb for some gentle persuasion. No luck! Finally I started playing with the wire/cap and wiggling it around. I noticed that If i take the cap off by about an 1/8 of an inch the cylinder fires, yet when i fully seat the cap, it seems to miss quiet often.

Anyone know what i should do? replace the plugs? maybe the wires?

Sounds like the spark plug cap is shorting out on the block.

Sounds possible.. Is there an easy way to test/identify/fix this??

Possibly a way of isolating this so it does not short? The cap itself seems relatively good upon visual inspection.

I'd probably start the bike up at night and carefully view that one plug. You should see the spark jumping to the engine.

Or - change the plug cap with one from another plug and see if it makes a difference.

Take a look inside the spark plug cap. Where the plug goes into the core, you'll see screwdriver slots on either side of the hole. Gently tighten the core (at least be sure it's not loose in the cap.) I've had this happen before.

The plug caps screw onto (into, there's a spike inside the cap) the wires. Unscrew the cap from the wire, carefully lop about 1/4"-3/8" off the end of the wire, and screw the cap back on. Don't overtighten it and strip out the inside of the wire.

i had the same problem on my suzi. one cylinder not firing.

just as fitz says. unscrew the cap. lopped off 2mm from the wire. screw cap back in place. problem solved.

i could see the inside screw was all black in my cap. indicating arcing inside the wire and cap.

Okay, Lopped off 2mm's of the wire.. Started it up, seems like problem solved! Fires fully seated, wiggled it really good, no cutting out.. sounds good with all four firing. This is why I love this forum. Thanks for the help, yet again!

to test it you'd need an o-scope, a really good meter, and you can tap into the spark plug to see if it's firing appropriately.... if you really wanted to see it.
