    Hi all

Im still new to this forum and this is my post on my 81 XJ750 rat project. Punchiest the bike just under a year ago for £250.01, had it delivered for £115. Missing tank left hand side panel and grab rail. Had a oil leak now fixed it’s a high mileage motor, but new valves and shims, cam chain and tensions, it’s been of the road for just under 10years, I borrowed a SR250 tank and put some charge in the battery and it fired up. ;0

The original idea was to use it as a spears bike for the 83 XJ750 Seca, but I convinced my dad that it is too good of a bike to strip for spears. Bought a rough tank for £40 16inc maxim rear wheel £20, Changed the oil and filter new grab rail. And that takes me up to now carbs need strip and clean as choke was left on my mistake so carbs are flooded and will not start.

    Modifications

Complete custom loom built from scratch (very well built) 6 fuses and a great earth.
Single speedo and a warning dash, carbs 195 mains dropped needles K&N filters, and straight thought pipes, koni shocks.

So im open to comments and tips/what to do next.

    Il keep you posted

    Al

I’m going to have to make some sort of baffle to meet noise legalisations. Any ideas?

Thanks for that I have taken it on board.
I was thinking of getting 2 12inc shorty pipes they will just go straight on they have a removable baffle so can put the baffle on for MOT then remove when road legal.

That first Vid is of probably one of the most famous rats in existence, gotta love the changeling.

heres my xj6 engined rat, cant really call it an xj seen as its living in a honda nighthawk frame with gpz9 front suspension, but its got a good heart. :) http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/1021/img1453b.jpg

p.s. if you want some rat inspiration check out ratbike.org

That xj6 is cool I know ratbike.org well. I like RAT bikes just not the ones with all kinds of crap hanging of them like plastic rats and all other stuff, I just think it looks bad.

I think he may have made/custom built the trailer, I know he built the tow bar him self.

I tend to agree with you there dude, I like rats but I dont think I could own a decorated one, i prefer the minimal look.

Do you post on the ratbike.org forum at all?

Yeah the trailer was made by a friend and the hitch was setup by me, tows beautifully until I start giving her some stick around back lanes but thats just a fault somewhere between the handlebars and the seat.

No im not a member as big bikes and forums are quite new to me I have only just moved up I the past 2/3 from lawnmowers, engine powered garden tools, mini bikes pit bikes some peds and crossers. I thought adding a trailer would ruin the handling a bit. I may join the rat bike forum at some point.
