Hi ya'll, I'm a new user, just traded an old .38 revolver for a 94 xj600. I searched for anything about a dual disc swap but came up dry. Had anyone out there done it? Do I need to replace forks? What about the single disc master cylinder? Does it have enough balls to push 2 calipers? I haven't even started this bike yet, still waiting on a battery. I got it for something to ride while I finish building my 74 cb750, which may take some time. Appreciate any help you can offer.

You have to switch to FZR forks and wheel. The forks are the same diameter.

Not sure how the brake lines connect with the XJ setup.

Interesting idea.... Though to be honest, there's more then enough brake there as it is.

Ok, I'm going off the single disc on my Honda not being enough brake for me, but I imagine the technology made some strides in the interim 20 yrs.

The Yamaha brake is quite good; especially if it has the dual-piston caliper which I believe that bike does. Their biggest downside is the lines. Yamaha brake lines have always been "bouncy" even when new. Since you're going to want to replace the lines anyway, go with stainless steel and you will probably find the single disc is plenty.

I just got some stainless lines to install, waiting on new pads and going to do it all at once.

I agree -- the single disc is very effective.

I'd give it a whirl before you start planning on swapping parts for a dual disc.

I was originally planning to "dual-disc" my 550 Seca; but with rebuilt brakes and stainless lines it's not really necessary; on the bike with the EBC rotor it's really not necessary.
