Where can I get a new key for my 82 maxim? I've called a couple of dealerships and keep getting the run around and will not drop 200 on a new ignition

Find the key code (if present) on ignition assembly and order a pre cut set.

Any "old-school" locksmith can help you. The code should be on a sticker on the bottom of the ignition switch; you may have to remove it to find it.

Yamahas use five different key "blanks" it would help if you knew which one; however it's not critical.

I bought key blanks when I wanted to get duplicates made, and took them to a locksmith. He was a tad miffed that I had brought my own (he stocks all 5.) If you pull the ignition switch and take it to a locksmith they will probably be able to take it from there.

thanks guys... our local shop had told me that I had to replace the ignition and after calling a few dealerships I discovered that our home town favorite at Bee Line is raping people at 15 bucka a key where all the other dealerships in the area are at 6 bucks a key. Oh well its only a 9 dollar difference
