There is a little known fact about the 4th Amendment. It is the frisk exception it gives Police Officers the right to frisk the ares within the drives reach (lunge area any where that can be reached from the drives seat) and no they dont have to have PC or your permission. It has held up in all courts as a needed tool for Officer safety.

I'm not sure about US law but in NZ wearing Police uniform comes under this legislation:

    Policing Act 2008
Section 48 - Personation and representing vehicle, etc, as Police vehicle.

    (1) A person commits an offence who, without reasonable excuse,
and in circumstances likely to lead a person to believe that the
    person is a Police employee,—
    (a) pretends to be a Police employee by his or her words,
    conduct, or demeanour; or
    (b) assumes the name, designation, or description of a Police
    employee.

    (2) A person commits an offence who, without reasonable excuse,
uses any of the following things in circumstances likely to lead
a person to believe that the user is a Police employee:
    (a) a Police uniform, or item of that uniform, or a Police
    article:
    (b) a uniform, or item of uniform, or article that closely
resembles a Police uniform, or item of that uniform, or
    Police article.

    (3) A person commits an offence who, without reasonable excuse,
represents any vehicle, craft, or other conveyance as being in
the service of the Police in circumstances likely to lead a person
to believe the vehicle, craft, or conveyance is in the service
    of the Police.

    (4) A person who commits an offence against this section is liable
to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, to a fine
not exceeding $15,000, or to both.

I've no idea whether the shirt you were wearing looks anything like the Police uniform in that city/state but if it does, well, not a good idea to be wearing it.

For example, any passer-by might see you drinking alcohol and, mistakenly, believe it's an on-duty cop drinking, or doing something else they shouldn't be doing.

I am not a fan because of the mentality of most I have run into. Most are uneducated (not that education is all that much of an identifier these days) meat heads and just in it for the union benefits.

I am sorry, cops and firefighters aren't heroes. They are mercenaries. When you rape and pillage the public coffers year after year and no one dares challenge them, you have tyranny.

The profession isn't bad though. Just the people who fill the profession. So I guess I dislike the person who wears the badge.

Can you believe this sh*t! Ugggghhhhh! It makes me want to........well, I won't finish that. I don't know about where you all live, but there is NO way in hell this would have happened here............................at least not yet, but never if I have a say. Not to be political, but this is at the root of our history in what it violates. Curious to know if you all have a problem with this? What has our great nation started to become? Wow!

    Property Rights

“The right to property is rooted in the right we have to the free use of our own mind and talents, which it is government’s job to protect,” James Madison wrote.

I live in the Raleigh NC area and I have to say in every dealing I have had with the police have has been professional and helpful. If I see an officer(s) getting a coffee I will insist I pay for it. Let's face it they put themselves in harm's way everyday, how many jobs can have that as part of its description. Sure, there are less than good people in law enforcement but given the alternative...nah I'll continue buying the coffees

Can't say I've ever had a problem with them, generally I've found the attitude you give them is what you get back

I'm assuming everyone who "hates" them won't under any circumstances be calling them if they are robbed, beaten, stabbed, shot etc etc?

I work as a Game Warden and as far as I can see, the only people that shouldn't like wardens are poachers. Wouldn't be much for wildlife left without the men and women who devote their lives to protecting the wildlife and environment. Same for the police. It would be a pretty sad place to live where there was no police presence. Maybe some of you would like to live in Afghanistan or maybe Libya?
I've always said that if you don't break the law, you have little to fear from the police.

My father in law served 31 years Lubbock PD 1957-1988 he was and still is one of the good guys. he only gave attitude when whoever he pulled over gave attiitude, I have friends that can back up that statement about him. When there is no law there is CHAOS. When you break the law is when you hate the police. I drove local 18teen wheeler in SO CAL the 91 scales had the biggest jerks on the Ca Highway Dept. They did not hate me cause I drove a truck, they hated the fact that most owners of trucks would not keep them maintained to be safe on the road and as a driver I was trying to feed my family I drove some junk we do what we have to do. I personally think there is too much money being wasted on career criminals and Sheriff Joe has the right idea the criminals should loose their rights when they violate our rights and they should be dealt with harshly. I believe the punishment should fit the crime not a vacation with 3 squares A/C color tv weights. we need more Sheriffs like Az Sheriff Joe

Like I said before if you pass the POP (Piss Off the Police) test when you get stopped then its a smooth stop. But if you fail the POP test then its game on. As for the video of the basketball goal it is another case of not knowing the Law. The City, county and State own from the edge of the sidewalk closest to the house to the street Approx 10 feet it is the right of way. They can tell you what you can and can not put there. She was trying to explain it when he got Attitude when that happen she just said you can come pick it up. Police can be your friend or your worse nightmare its all up you the person. A bad attitude gets a bad Attitude bottom line.

My friend recently hit road dirt on a turn with his goldwing and went
    down-he was fine.

After we got the bike of him the dirt-bag badge heavy rat -bas!@*$%
kept us "detained" for almost 3 hrs.
No matter how many times I brought up citizens rights they had
some BS excuse having to due with liability on there part
    trumped our rights.
THEY figured that because we had lots of leather we were idiots.

I let it side because I have too much to do right now to fight with the
    very expensive "system".
But only this time. Next time will be diff.

Oh yeah, I have many years working with them and family members
    on various forces.
Cops treat bikers in this area as criminals, filth, low class humans.

They suck period, dont need them, dont want them.

I have to put my two cents in on this one. I am 62 and have ridden since I was 17, continuously. I prefer not to be in circumstances that deal with police officers, but occasionally it has occurred. Every time they have been there to help, aid or protect. And that is very comforting. Even once when my younger macho temper got me in trouble, a police officer intervened and saved my butt from going to jail. I have also seen officers tested beyond reason and admired their response, both aggressive and controlled response. They are to be admired for putting up with some of the crap they deal with every single day. Criminals and stupid people do not take days off. If you really hate cops, I would strongly suggest that you participate in a "ride along" program. Most departments have them and it is a very eye opening experience. And finally ask yourself if you would do their job. If you have the patience to put up with wife beating a--holes, crimes against children, or acts of violence for violence sake. They really are to be admired........

    detained for what reason?

what rights are you referring to?

different how? are you going to detain the officer?

i totally agree with you yamasarus. sometimes the officer wrongly cites you for something, and that sucks but at the end of the day they are just another person doing their job who at times might make a mistake or have a bad day that snowballs into a couple peoples bad day. fortunately for those situations, you have the right to plea not guilty and the officer is not the end of the road for you.

DONT CALL THEM when you come home to an empty garage where you bike once was, or when you get rear ended by a drunk.

I have lived in small towns and bigger cities during the 52 years of my existance. Tickets mean that you may have done something wrong and courts are there to make final judgement. Nothing in this world is perfect but we must have laws and people to enforce them. I have had mostly good experiences with the police and know that they are there for me if I need them. It's a hard job and the police that patrol my neighborhood are good citizens and good neighbors who live here also.

Based on the ranting tone of your post and the statement below...

"THEY figured that because we had lots of leather we were idiots."

..... I'm not sure it was the leather that tipped them off.

By the way, I used to live in Phoenix and I used to get up to Prescott from time to time to get away from that ridiculous heat. You live in a gorgeous part of the country with great riding opportunities.

    Be safe,

    Loren

Meh, don't hate them but I don't have much use for them either. I am generally a law abiding citizen, occasionally I might exceed the speed limit by a few MPH but other than that I don't give them a reason to give me a hard time but they still do. Just this evening I was tailed by a county mounty for no foreseeable reason at all. I was not speeding, doing a few under actually, nor was I driving in such a manner than demanded he immediately bust out onto the road and tail me for 2 miles. He decided to turn off in the opposite direction at a red light but not before giving me a hard stare and making his presence known. It used to nerve me out when cops got behind me but as I get older I treat them as any other motorist. I just don't like to feel like I'm being eyed or watched when there is no cause. Police tend to do that sort of thing and thus make me uncomfortable, human nature just dictates that we not like things that make us feel so.
