Need to replace my grips since they are the originals. I think they are too skinny for my comfort. Thinking about the euro type "Gnd Turisimos" fat in the center. Anyone tried those?
    What do you like?

Personally I LOVE Gran Turismos; they came on my Norton, and I've installed them on both of my XJs. Actually, I've installed them on every Jap bike I've ever owned (the British bikes came with them.)

For my latest bike I bought a set of throwbacks that matched the originals on fleabay for 5.99 delivered and bought a set of grip puppies for 2 bucks to enlarge the grip and absorb the vibes but to each his own.

Personallu, I like "Superbike" grips.. don't even know if they still make them. I've only replaced my grips once since 1987...

I have rubber grips that are similar to what your referring to, but I'm not sure about the name of them. Anyway they are very comfortable and much better than the skinny grips that the bike came with. It's just a different feel of them I like.

I currently have the "superbike" grips like Studeman does on my xj and i like them because they have just the right amount of squish to them and they were cheap which i dont think anyone will complain about lol

+1 on the Gran Turismos, but I have big hands and like larger grips. I also do not like the marsmallow-feel of the foam grips.

I used to have a pair of those foam grips on my old XS650 years ago and by the end of the summer, it was like grabbing onto an old dried out sponge from the UV rays of the sun baking them and drying them out.
I like the rubber ones I have on now, that are larger diameter in the middle and really comfortable to hang onto.

    Re: Gran Turismos--

Find some REAL Gran Turismos on eBay, the "repops" are too stiff. The real ones come in different sizes, some for tiny "scooter" bars and some for bikes with 1" bars, so be careful.

The stock Yammie grips are 21mm on the left and 26.5mm or so on the throttle barrel side (right.)

You want the "Japanese Model" 21/27mm grips, 130mm long. (The stockers are a little over 120mm.)

You'll need an aftermarket throttle drum from Len or Dremel down the ribs/lugs on the original; I use a couple of drops of Duro Rubber adhesive on the throttle side (it's basically the same stuff the GT's came with. long ago.)

If you're lucky, they'll have the original instruction sheet tucked in them... a blast from the past if ever there was.

I agree with bigfitz, the 'turismos are hard to beat. As an option, since you were looking for options, check these out. 30 different color combinations. You can change 'em up to look more cruiser style or sporty as in the pic. With or without bar ends.
