    I parked my bike sunday at a friends house after drinking that night. This morrning he informed me I had gas coming out of my carbs. He said the fule was not on prime. I have had a float stick before, but I haven't had the petcock fail before.

    So the Petcock has to be bad, or can just a sticky float cause this? I am under the impression that the petcock has to be leaking in order for this to happen.(or in prime) I just do not want to replace the petcock.

    Of course I will know more when I get the bike home, but I was just wondering about the petcock.

    The petcock would have had to been left in PRI or have a problem for it to fill the crankcase with gas. There isn't enough gas in the bowls to fill the crankcase.

    heh, yea thought so. Was hoping that I was wrong. Thanks. So is it a rebuild kit or do I need to replace it?

    If you did not have it on prime, your petcock is in need of rebuild.

    Your carb's floats should have prevented them from leaking into your crankcase, your carbs will need work as well

    I am pretty sure the petcock has been bad for a while. I think that float just got stuck. I have had these carbs on an off a lot not a big job for me to work on them again. I have a qoute for some carb parts right now anyway. I guess I will just have to add to my list of parts. I also had the bike parked at a steap angle that it sat on for two days it may have just been the angle of the float causing it to stick or some thing. I have noticed a lose of power at higher end so I was about to take them a part anyway. So there is a few problems all at once.

    I just installed an on/off valve (found at small engine repair shop) for $2.99 and put it inline to shut the gas off. No stinking gas leaks here.

    I will probably put a in line shut off on for some thing temporary, but I will be rebuilding the petcock ontop of the carb work I am already doing. No big deal.

    Your engine probably needed a good flushing anyways! :D

    Lol unfortunately I just changed the oil. Should I be concerned about bearing or anything els in the engine that has gotten gas on them?

    Drain the oil out, put some cheap oil and filter on it, run the engine for a few mins then drain that oil out then put your good oil and filter on/in.

    No need to change the filter twice; just the oil itself. The new filter can stay in for the second oil change.

    A forum for relationships might say;

    "When getting rid of your bike (signifigant other), make sure the title (marriage cert) is not in your name. Trade in for new model. Avoid ones that 'need some work'."

    "Hint: Relieve relationship maintenance pressures as follows; Fill crankcase with alcohol, drain, and repeat until timing is at least 30 degrees off. WARNING! Do NOT attempt to operate bike or any other vehicle during this process. Stay in garage, order pizza."
