I am stripping the gauges off my 750 and won't be using the speedo drive and was wondering what I would need for a spacer with that off the axle.

A steel tube cut to the proper length will work. Are you going to add a electronic speedometer? Most states require a speedometer to pass inspection. No speedo no tags.

why remove it? just cap the threaded part and it is barely noticeable.

I am planning on using my GPS as a speedometer. Have to do a little more research on legalities but im pretty sure im good.

Why leave it if im not using it.

I go with leaving it in place and capping the cable connection, it is part of the grease seal for the wheel. You could fabricate something to replace it but it is barley noticeable.

Not sure about the 750, but IIRC the one on my 700 could have the guts removed without affecting it working as a seal and a spacer. Just pop the circlip off, remove the pronged washed and thrust washer, and reassemble.

Yep the 750 can be have the gears removed. Probably a good option, and cheaper than getting a spacer machined that fits the oil seal.

Unless your doing a complete bike mod where it would look bad
or out of place, do as stated above, cap or gut. Just seems safer
to leave OEM parts in place when it comes to steering/handling.
    IMHO.

Alright sounds like gutting it is the better option.

Varies from state to state. Where i live, i can register my '81 as an antique, which exempts me from inspection. Though there are some limitations to what mods you can make and still be considered antique.
