The bike was fine when I put it away for the winter, but now the starter won't work. Here's what I can tell:

    The battery is fine

    The fuses are fine

When I hit the starter button the oil light comes on and I can hear a slight click, but the starter motor doesn't run.

    The headlight is off

I'm not a mechanic, so I haven't a clue. I apologize if this has been covered before, I didn't see this, exact issue anywhere.

    Thanks

    Pat Bergin

Probably the starter relay or a connection.

If you follow the (+) battery cable you will find the relay. If you jump between the two heavy posts with an old screwdriver it should spin the starter (lots of sparks). If that works it's probably the relay.

Make very sure it's in neutral before you try this!

OK, the solenoid is bad. Will a solenoid from a 1983 model fit a 1984? I see all kinds of them listed for an '83, but nothing for an '84.

Yes, most other starter solenoids will work if wired properly and fit on your bike. I'm presently using one from a small engine repair shop that was made for a lawn tractor and works very well.

'83-'84 What? They probably are the same, but you've not told us what bike.

Where are you located? There was no 650 Maxim for the 1984 model year; at least not in the USA.
