Is the original XJ 750 engine cooling fins painted flat black?.. Hard to tell on mine as all the paint is worn off except a few small flakes

US models were silver. Some destined for other markets were black, the same as the 650 Seca.

Do your cases look anyhing like the ones on this bike?.

Just to clarify: Us models had the "cylinder section" painted black and the "cases" were black only on the Midnight models.

Wierd Po-Lice Bike rd350 LC wheels, what looks like a radian engine and a bunch of police equipment.
IF yr gonna paint... Suggest PJ1 black spray paint Absolutely identical to OEM BUT Very much better quality than the seemingly 'dissapearing' paint Yama used.

Nope. My 650 Seca originally had black cases, the same as the bike from NZ.

Or like the bike in this pictures' foreground- my bike has the silver engine, bit it's from a 750 Seca. The other Seca is how it looked with the original powerplant, before the swap.

Those wheels are standard on XJ bikes on this side of the world, they are not LC wheels as the front is a 19 while the LC had a 18

I'm also a big fan of PJ-1 Case Black (semi-gloss, just as it should be). Perfect match and the stuff is really resistant to chemicals and abrasion. $9 a can but worth it.

my 83 xj750rk has gloss black case, but the heads and valvecovers look flat black, I don't know if it just dulled from heat and age or that's factory?

Your head and valve cover and engine should be the semi gloss, yours are probably faded or chemically etched from someone who was over zealous with SuperClean or similar product (it should be cut down 50/50 at least before touching a bike, it will etch the paint!). Heat cycles will dull paint if it gets too hot as well. Clean it throughly with soap and water, blow it dry, mask off everything you don't want paint on and hit it with PJ1. You'll look, rather the bike will look, like brand new.

    Robert,

I agree 110%!! I am in the process of repainting my 82 Seca 650 motor and this is exactly what I am going to use. I have used it for many projects and this stuff is simply the best out there!

on my motor the cylinder is black (needs repainted) the valve cover is black and aluminum and the rest of the engine is staight aluminum. so the proper paint on the cylinders is a simi gloss pj-1 black
