What is this cable?

hey, i'm trying to get my bike ready for the season, and i see this coming out from the front of my has tank. can anybody tell me what this is, and where i plug it in? :lol:

It's hard to tell with the picture but you should check on your handlebars and make sure that that wire doesn't plug in somewhere up there. I'm not sure but the clutch may have a switch that that plugs into but without seeing what the end looks like i can't say for sure.

 

Turn signal wire up to the first plug maybe, came undone? stunnuts is right, we need more pictures, lol.

 

looks like the broken end of the clutch switch, can't really see in the pic. Get a close up and trace where that wire goes.

 

I think it comes out of the huge bundle of the headlight wiring

Pretty sure that is the switch wire for the clutch.

It WAS the switch lead for the clutch switch. Actually, it still is, but the switch it's supposed to be permanently connected to is on the handlebar.

Ya needs a new one.

(The other end plugs into the flat GREEN connector inside the headlight shell.)

 

Clutch switch. Mine fell off a while ago. Yep, gonna get around 'someday' to fixing that.

 

Yep, clutch switch was my first thought. Give Chacal a PM he will set you up with a new one.

 

What exactly does this switch do anyways?

 

The switch keeps you from starting in gear without the clutch pulled in.

 

and will my bike me able to move if it's just like that?

 

Makes it so you cant start your bike in gear without pulling the clutch lever.

 

If it will start yeah. I think it will start in neutral without the clutch but I'm not sure. If it does then you can ride.

 

You will still be able to start in neutral and run the bike fine. The switch can be jumped so the system think the clutch is always pulled. Although it may be a safety risk if you start you bike in gear without pulling the clutch as the bike will run away.

 

Some sort of issue with my 750 SECA US import (UK bikes do not have that feature) just twisted the wires together so it thinks that the clutch is in all the time. Or you could reconnect it quite an easy job, all so it depends if you trust your neutral light.
