CDI problems

    Hi. I have a 1981 Maxim 650. i am from south africa and there is no cdi boxes for sale.

    Is there any other mothods/bikes cdi's i can use to fix this? a CDI diagram showing the functions of each wire of the bike will also be of great help.

    I don't know if you get Haynes manuals over in SA but one of these would contain a wiring diagram, they really are a worthwhile investment it shows everything you should ever need to do
    also I belive electrics are the same as in the xj750 if that's any help

    TCI box...not CDI, and different models have different ignition curves. They go on sale on Ebay all the time, and there is a member here to can fix them...he's in the USA.

    Why do you think it's the TCI box? What are the symptoms? They can fail, but other things in the ignition are more likely and you should troubleshoot them first.

    What precisely is the problem you are experiencing?
    A TCI for an 81 650 Max (you can use the 80 as well) shouldn't be too hard to come by even with import duties.
    There is a thread on this site with some schematics available.
    As for a schematic for the TCI proper, I don't know of anyone that has one.
