Probably the speedo or speedo cable and when you push on the headlight it pushes on the cable. It's not uncommon for the Yamaha mechanical instruments to start making horrible screaming sounds.

Probably just needs to be lubed, not replaced. Use some good quality grease instead of WD40.

WD40 is only a penetrant, NOT a lubricant.

I wouldn't use grease either, if you live where it gets cold; use a few drops of motor oil or a good spray lubricant.

The problem could also be in the instrument itself, and the act of removing/replacing the cable "disturbed" it enough to shut it up.

You don't necessarily need to replace the cable unless it's worn; take it off the bike, pull the inner cable out, CLEAN it, flush the sheath out and reassemble with proper lubrication. If you find the inner cable is worn or frayed anywhere, or the sheath is damaged or worn through THEN replace it.

Be sure to lube your new cable if you do end up replacing it.
