Someone on here did put a sportster seat on an xj, just don't remember who. Anything can be made to fit with the proper saws and/or hammer. LOL
Some Virago parts will work on xj's, maybe a seat will work as well.

I have a Sporster seat on my 750. It is comfortable and just the right size for these bikes.
To mount it, there's a groove under the front of the seat (about 2" wide) that slides onto a tab that holds it down in the front. I made a short piece out of aluminum and mounted it to the tank screw.
The back of the set had a chrome tab with a hole in it to hold the back of the seat down. I just have it bolted to my fender (after market) to hold it in place. It fits perfect and looks like it was made for the bike.
Not the best photos, but you get the idea:

I don't have an idea what year my seat is off of. Once I seen it, I fugured it would fit without too much trouble. Yes, it may have been a gamble without setting it right on the bike to make sure it would work, I know, but when it comes to making things fit, that's the fun part of fabrication for me.
You may want to measure the width of the frame rail where the seat mounts and take some measurements off of the Harley seats to match it up is about the only way to know if it will fit.
