My name is Devin I am 19 and I just bought my first motorcycle. It's a 1982 ( I believe) xj seca 650. I bought this because I've heard their awesome bikes and my roommate has the exact same bike and he loves it. It currently is not running but everything is intact and it has only been sitting for about 7 months. The PO said he thinks its the coils but I haven't really gotten to take a look for myself yet. I'm really looking forward to working on this thing! What do you guys think?

Check rear brakes for delamination before you actually ride it.

    Charge the battery.
Check the compression + Measure and replace valve shims prior to using the bike.
    Change oil/oil filter/gas/spark plugs
    Clean the carbs, sync etc.
    Update fuse panel.

Ask questions after doing some/most of that :)

I think if you get a manual, and read everything you can in it and on this site, you'll have a blast and end up with a sweet a** bike! Welcome to the site!

Congrats man! It was so awesome to watch you buy your first bike. Bummer we couldn't get it packed into the dorm room yet. But we'll get it done.

I have to thank everyone here. They taught me everything I know. And I'll pass as much along as I can to you. But where I fall short, they've got your back. So thanks in advance everyone here, for helping us younger (and less experienced) guys out.

Hey, we were all younger and less experienced at one time.
The only thing that's changed is that we are now older......and less experienced (me).
I sometimes think the "J" in XJ Bikes stands for "Jesus" as a lot of bikes get "Resurrected" with the help and info found here.
